My Impulsive Review will cover "The X-Files:  I Want To Believe" which has just come out on DVD.  The movie is an extension of the T.V. series which originally had a pair of F.B.I. agents assigned to the weird, paranormal, and unexplained phenomena of the world.  Mulder and Scully were to investigate, F.B.I. style, the mysteries and try to solve them in the face of adversity (their colleagues were rarely open to believe what they had seen and often opposed them). 

I will say that if you are a fan of the "X-Files" T.V. show, or at least open minded toward the pairing of David Duchovny (Fox Mulder) and the still gorgeous Gillian Anderson (playing Dana Scully) you are in for a mysterious thrill ride into the unknown paranormal.  I will warn enthusiasts of the show's brilliant global conspiracy (I was one of these), of aliens working with the U.S. government to possibly invade the earth, that even though the movie takes place after the last episode of the series finale, the conspiracy is simply ignored (as if ***Spoiler Alert the T.V. show's conclusion where aliens will be invading in 2012*** cannot be avoided, because Mulder is still a fugitive) though Mulder's being an F.B.I. fugitive is addressed almost immediately in the film.  Mulder's hiding has left him long in isolation, though the movie makes it clear that Scully still sees him and loves him. 

As an F.B.I. agent goes missing and a seemingly psychic former priest leads the F.B.I. on a vast field of ice to...  an open minded agent familiar with Mulder's work in the X-Files begs Scully to bring Mulder out of hiding to aid their search.  What entails is a great thriller, a mysterious stretch not unlike a lengthened epidsode of one of the bizarre "X-Files" from the T.V. show (one of the better ones) and at the same time it is very different.  Neither Mulder or Scully are F.B.I. agents and Dana has grown with her time apart from the agency.  She has become one of the top doctors in the medical profession and her religious and philosophical views are explored as she is faced with an ailing child patient.  Even the hot topic of stem cell research is integrel to the story here.  Scully resists helping Mulder and conflicts arise again and again from all different angles and sources as the pair struggles to do good in a cruel, perhaps damned, world where calamities and "the darkness" continue to pile high. 

For all of those who have not seen the "X-Files" show, which "T.V. Guide" hailed as the second greatest sci-fi program of all time (to "Star Trek", go figure) and the 37th greatest T.V. show ("Time" also ranked it in the top 100 T.V. shows), become a fan now.  You will not be disapointed:  the acting, writing, innovation, and mystery are all top notch in Cris Carter's masterpiece.  If you can tear through the nine great seasons and two movies you will be exhilarated, inspired, and more open minded (neurons will rejoice) of at least the power of imagination; and if nothing else, the hot views of a fiery Gillian Anderson.

As I have just read that Cris Carter said he would like to do a third film addressing the end of the conspiracy and "Invasion" from the show depending on the success of the "I Want To Believe" film.  Knowing that, I'd say go buy this movie, buy them en masse, buy three of them if you can they'll make a great stocking stuffer!  "The X-Files:  I Want To Believe" may be the last true "X-Files" Episode we will ever see where a strange phenomena/F.B.I. search is explored outside of the "aliens" story arc.  It was as if a great two hour show was aired on the big screen.  Remember if you "Want To Believe," then "the Truth is Out There"!
