I am of the opinion that wearing sunglasses on a cloudy day is not only ridiculous, but also cowardly. It might be true that eyes are windows to the soul, but hiding them so blatantly…I mean what does that say about one’s soul?
The new trend appears to be wearing one’s shades everywhere, regardless of the fickle weather, or the subjective sun’s rays.Across the Stony Brook campus roam a gang of sunglass wearing symbols for a society that needs blinders, metaphorically and literally.
Clearly making eye contact with fellow human beings, fellow students and fellow workers is a sacrilege on a modern New York university campus.Call it a look, a fad, a way of life, or a protection from dust storms that do not visit Long Island, or you could call it antisocial.Avert your glance, this poetic fusion of words may sting:
SUNGLASSES ON A CLOUDY DAY
I see You - all of it Even with the gray stripes of cloud
Roll brushed across dim blue,
The reflective glasses are worn
View introspectiveness
Why the need to hide behind glass
Or drive-shaft one’s wry glance?
Back & forth the yo-yo pupils
Eyes are a knight’s sharp lance
I omit cloudy day glasses
Unveiled is my armor
You can’t mask my transparency
Maybe its just a look:
A need to project a gun-shot
Cool collaboration
A call to the “Reservoir Dogs”
Or is it malicious:
A New York shield for passersby,
A mace to strike the glance,
A mirror to cower behind
Want them taken hold of?
Grip, twist, bend, smash the plastic frames
Take the metal wires
And stuff the cotton in Your ears.

The girls who wear those oversized sunglasses are broadcasting to the world "Do not get close to me or try to talk to me because I am a BITCH!!! Sorry RJ, just had a flashback to a past girlfriend who used me and threw me away.
