Welcome to R.J.HunekeWrites.com

It has been far too long since I have blogged here...in part because of the busyness that has ensued surrounding my writing.  My novel Homeland Security:  the Drunken Fallacies of a Federal Agent has made it to the second round of the Amazon.com Breakthrough Novel Award contest!  Life continues with a lot of hard work, intricate writing and numerous readings.

On Politics 01/21/2010

Thinks that there are morons in office and there are morons who voted for them. The current political system in the U.S. has been disruptive and made a bastardization of what our forefathers set down, what they intended, and after the 20th>21st century's disastrous politics I'd have to conclude that the system is broken beyond fixing. I hope that President Obama, who I voted for, and his affiliates can prove me wrong...but too many are selfish instead of selfless...we'll see...

Today is a day to remember the great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  May his words never be forgot.

"Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness." - Dr. King

HELP HAITI 01/14/2010

Our thoughts and prayers go out to those in Haiti.  Please, anyone who can, send aid to those that have suffered in the earthquake.

Today I have to admit that I, R.J. Huneke, used steroids and HGH...but it was only to get through a wicked cramp that my hand sustained while writing...I swear I never intended to use steroids to enhance the performance of my writing; I only used them to recover from writers' injury and I only used them during the years...I regret using steroids; I knew it was wrong, but I just wanted to get back to the keyboard faster...my mentor Tony LaRussa (who won two World Series with bulky star hitters) is behind me 100%, and though Tony had no knowledge of my transgressions when I did them, he will get me back to being able to open up a laptop without the use of performance enhancers.

guitar Love 12/26/2009

"guitar Love"

as my hands slowly caress

shining rosewood back and sides,

as my fingers brush up and down

the back of her slim neck

and the gold about her head;

fingers hurt from pressing need,

more skin has died in process,

realize just how lucky I am

 to cradle this guitar,

this artist, this beauty Love.

There is song... 12/24/2009

  “There is Song”

Where there is laughter there is song

Mirth and melody make the heart

Your smiles, my soul

Gifts You grant cuteness

Where there is courage there is song

The sound of Your voice gives to me

Your smiles, my soul

Mysterious this

Where there is meeting there is song

Strange passion plucks at us like strings

A guitar to souls

Such as us sayang.

“Why do feet tire walking?”

Why do feet tire walking?

Run a marathon

Hike mountainous spine’s lofty peaks

Why do we hurt when we grow?

Our bones might stretch,

Thoughts might shadow themselves

Why do we go on, knowing?

The snowy eaves sigh

We cannot know, cannot hear all

Why do we doubt and then cry

Tears are not evil

Melt ice:  give water without thought.

ART 12/07/2009

"Art should exhilarate, and throw down the walls of circumstance on every side, awakening in the beholder...universal relation and power which the work evinced in the artist, and its highest effect is to make new artists."

      - An Emerson quote from his essay "Art."
